Shelby American ended a six-decade drought this year by putting the GT350 badge back on a factory convertible — and this is the car that got it there. Built at Shelby's Las Vegas facility during development of the 2026 GT350 program, the prototype runs a supercharged 5.0L Coyote V8 rated at 810 hp, breathing through a Borla exhaust, under an aluminum hood, on 20-inch wheels, wearing Le Mans stripes and serialized Shelby plaques.

Why it matters

The production 2026 GT350 is capped at roughly 1,000 cars worldwide, and convertibles will be a small slice of that. A documented development prototype sits outside the numbered run entirely — for the right collector, provenance like that is the whole point. The honest counterweight: development cars live hard lives. Expect test miles (the odometer isn't published) and possibly pre-production hardware, so the usual prototype caveats apply alongside the bragging rights.

The fine print worth knowing

This is a charity sweepstakes benefiting the Shelby American Automobile Club Foundation, a 501(c)(3), and it runs March 9 through 11:59 PM PDT on September 7, 2026, with the drawing on or about September 15. Read the reserve clause carefully: the full prize — winner's choice of the car or $75,000 cash — only locks in if the Foundation collects at least $250,000 in donations during the entry period. Fall short, and the winner instead receives 25% of total proceeds. As of mid-July 2026 the operator's counter showed $193,250 raised, about 77% of the reserve with roughly seven weeks to go. Note also that the $75,000 cash option is only about 59% of the car's stated $128,000 value, so the car is the play. Donations start at $25 for 18 entries, there's a free hand-addressed mail-in route (18 entries per mailer) spelled out in the Official Rules, entry is open to those 18+ but not to Washington State residents, and the winner owes the taxes on a six-figure prize.
