What you're looking at
This is the car behind LZ MFG's “700HP Evo Giveaway”: a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII — an Evo 8 — with a built engine, transmission and transfer case. The Official Rules describe it as “a modified 2004 Mitsubishi Evo 8 valued at approximately $40,000”, and it comes with $20,000 in cash.
The engine is the headline. The short block is Buschur's built 2.0 with a Manley 10:1 long-rod rotating assembly on the stock crank and ARP main studs, under a built Evo 9 MIVEC head with GSC S3 cams, Ferrea Comp Plus valves, ARP 625 head studs and Kiggly HLAs, with a Huy Tran extended oil pan below. A Xona 59/64s turbo sits on an ETS V-band stock-location kit, breathing through a DI Fab intake, an STM race intercooler and piping, a Tial Q blow-off valve and an Rk 3 titanium exhaust. An Emtron KV8 runs it all on a Boomslang plug-and-play harness, with an Emtron CAN gauge and a keypad for launch control, cruise control, rolling anti-lag and multiple boost modes. It's flex-fuel, and LZ quotes roughly 500 whp on pump gas and 700-plus on E85 — so the 700 in the name is an ethanol number.
Behind the engine sit a Shep Ultimate Ratio transmission with REM-treated gears, a Shep transfer case, an Evo 9 ACD (active center differential) and an Exedy twin-disc clutch. Outside, it wears Evo 9 aero with carbon-fiber accents and JDM HID headlights on Enkei RPF1 wheels, with StopTech Sport front pads and upgraded stainless brake lines; inside are Evo 9 seats and steering wheel and an Alcantara headliner and pillars. LZ's build sheet doesn't list the mileage, the paint color or which Evo VIII trim the car started as, and the car page says more upgrades are planned, without specifics.
Why it matters
The Evo VIII was the first Lancer Evolution Mitsubishi sold in the U.S., and the 2003–2005 cars are where the American Evo story begins: a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4G63, all-wheel drive and a rally-bred chassis aimed squarely at the Subaru WRX STI; a 2004 like this one left the factory with 271 hp. Two decades on, clean original Evos have turned into collector cars. This is the other kind — a comprehensively built street car whose parts list reads like a directory of Evo specialists: Buschur for the bottom end, Shep for the gearbox and transfer case, Emtron for engine management.
That also defines the ownership reality. A 700-hp-class 4G63 is a maintenance commitment: E85 isn't at every station (the flex-fuel setup lets it run pump gas at lower power), clutches and driveline parts wear faster at this output, and the car will want a tuner who knows the Emtron platform. Built Evos sell on the quality of the build and its paperwork more than on peak numbers.
The fine print worth knowing
How entries work. Purchases at lzmfg.com earn “one (1) entry for every $5 USD spent in a single transaction on eligible online purchases”, and product listings show the entry count. “If a purchase is returned prior to the drawing, entry/ies associated with that purchase will be voided.” LZ's FAQ adds: “Due to the nature of sweepstakes we cannot accept returns for refunds during sweepstakes periods.” Residents of the U.S. and Canada (excluding Quebec) can enter free through LZ's online form, one entry per completed form, with no limit on the number of forms; residents of Finland, France, New Zealand, Switzerland and the U.K. can enter only by purchase. LZ may announce entry multipliers during the campaign, and “When an Entry Multiplier is offered, the entries earned via a Form will be multiplied by the applicable Entry Multiplier.”
Timing. Entries close at 02:59:59 AM ET on October 28, 2026 — that's 11:59:59 PM Pacific on Tuesday, October 27. Marden-Kane, the independent administrator, holds the drawing “on or about Friday, October 30, 2026”, and the winner's name is to be posted on LZ's social media “on or about November 20, 2026”.
Delivery and the cash. LZ's car page says the team will arrange shipping and direct-deposit the $20,000. The Official Rules are narrower: a U.S. winner “must agree to pick up Grand Prize at a Sponsor-specified location within thirty (30) days of notification of availability from the Sponsor”, and “Winner will be solely responsible for any applicable licensing, insurance, title and registration fees and any other expenses not specified herein, including but not limited to costs incurred by winner related to the acceptance, pickup/transport or use of a prize.” The rules also say “Cash prize will be awarded in the form of a check issued in the verified winner’s name.” Where promotional materials and the rules differ, the rules state that “the Official Rules shall prevail, govern and control.”
Condition and emissions. The car comes as-is, without warranty from LZ or the administrator, and the rules warn that “THE PRIZE VEHICLE MAY NOT MEET SAFETY OR EMISSIONS TESTING REQUIRED IN SOME STATES”. The winner must check local emissions and safety-inspection requirements before accepting, and needs a valid driver's license and “evidence of legally required insurance prior to taking delivery.”
Taxes. U.S. winners receive “an IRS form 1099 for the total value of the prize” — the full $60,000 ARV, cash included. At a 24% federal rate that is $14,400 before any state tax; the $20,000 is there “to help offset any potential tax liability.”
Who can enter. Legal residents of the 50 states, D.C., Canada (excluding Quebec), Finland, France, New Zealand, Switzerland and the U.K. who are licensed drivers of legal age of majority — but “Previous winners of giveaways sponsored by LZ BMX LLC dba LZ MFG are not eligible to enter or win a prize.” A Canadian winner must also answer a time-limited skill-testing question, and “Only three (3) random drawings to select an alternate winner (if necessary) will be conducted, after which the applicable prize will remain unawarded.”
The rest. “Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value, where lawful, at its sole discretion.” Entering also means agreeing that “ALL DISPUTES WILL BE RESOLVED SOLELY BY BINDING ARBITRATION WITH NO CLASS RELIEF.”

Why It's Special
The Evo VIII was the first Lancer Evolution Mitsubishi sold in the U.S. (2003–2005 model years): a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4G63 and all-wheel drive, with 271 hp from the factory in 2004 form. Clean, original, low-mileage examples now trade as collector cars; this one is the other kind of Evo — a comprehensively built street car with a Buschur short block, Shep gearbox and transfer case, an Evo 9 ACD and Emtron engine management — valued on the quality of its build rather than on originality.
Our value estimate
$40,000
LZ MFG's Official Rules value the car at approximately $40,000, inside a $60,000 total ARV that includes $20,000 cash; the cash is listed separately here, so $40,000 is the car alone. Recent sales of built Evo VIIIs bracket that figure: a Buschur Racing–built 2003 (2.3-liter stage 3 short block, 510 hp on its dyno sheet) sold for $56,500 on Cars & Bids in July 2025, and a modified 2004 RS with 90,000 miles sold for $21,000 on Bring a Trailer in July 2026. Built Evos sell on the quality and documentation of the build, and on mileage, far more than on peak horsepower. This car's odometer reading isn't listed on LZ's car page or in the rules and would move the number, and only those two closely comparable sales turned up, so we anchor to the sponsor's $40,000. It is an editorial estimate, not an appraisal.
