The R8 GT is the send-off car. It is the last thing Audi did with the mid-engined V10 before the platform was retired, and the only R8 ever sold as a rear-drive-only halo. 333 were built for the world. This is number 242, finished in Mythos Black Metallic over an Alcantara interior with carbon bucket seats.

Behind the cabin sits the 5.2-liter V10, driving the rear wheels through a 7-speed S tronic. What separated the GT from a standard R8 RWD was never really peak power — it was the chassis. Audi gave it a GT-specific suspension calibration, revised ESC programming, and seven selectable levels of rear torque control, which is a factory drift mode developed by people who take drift modes seriously.

The carbon on this car is factory GT equipment rather than aftermarket dress-up: the wing, front splitter, rear diffuser, canards and rear spats, plus 20-inch forged GT wheels on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s.

80Eighty has added to it. There is a full-body clear bra, KW adjustable lowering springs, high-flow headers and a Valvetronic Designs F1 catback. The exhaust is the headline of that list — a naturally aspirated V10 pulling to the far side of 8,000 rpm with the muffling reduced is one of the better arguments for internal combustion still on sale.

Why it matters

Naturally aspirated V10s are finished. The R8 has no replacement, its Lamborghini platform-mate moved to a turbocharged hybrid, and the GT was the last of the line off the assembly floor. That makes it a very specific kind of collectible: too new to be a classic, too scarce to depreciate like an ordinary used exotic. Auction results were already at or above the $253,290 original sticker by late 2024, and a delivery-mileage example cleared $274,000 in March 2026.

Two caveats belong in the same breath. First, this one is modified. Headers, exhaust and springs are sensible, well-chosen parts and they genuinely improve the car, but on a 333-unit final edition the deepest-pocketed buyers pay for untouched — modifications are usually a subtraction at resale, not an addition. Second, the odometer is not published anywhere. On a car like this, the gap between 900 miles and 9,000 miles is real money, and it is the single largest unknown in the valuation.

The fine print worth knowing

There is no fixed ticket price. The official rules award one entry for every whole dollar spent anywhere in the 80Eighty shop, so the cheapest paid route in is the cheapest thing in the store — a $10 sticker at the time of writing — not the $50-and-up bundles the storefront pushes at you. Select products carry 2x to 10x multipliers that the sponsor announces as it goes.

The stated total prize value is $295,000 — the car plus $60,000 in cash. The cash is the part most people undervalue. A prize of this size is ordinary income to a US winner and gets reported accordingly, and at a $295,000 prize value the federal bill alone runs well past $60,000 for most people. The cash softens that; it does not erase it, and it does not cover state tax, insurance on a low-production supercar, or transport.
