What you're looking at

Prime Driven's giveaway #337 is a 2012 BMW M3 Competition Package: an E92 in Melbourne Red Metallic showing about 62,000 miles. The engine is the S65, BMW's 4.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 with individual throttle bodies. It makes 414 hp and 295 lb-ft and revs to 8,400 rpm. Power goes through the 7-speed M-DCT dual-clutch, with paddles, to the rear wheels and the variable M differential lock.

The Competition Package (ZCP) is the E92 spec enthusiasts look for. It brings suspension 10mm lower, comp-specific Electronic Damper Control, revised DSC and 19-inch Style 359M wheels. Prime Driven's build sheet also lists the carbon-fiber roof, a carbon front lip and air dam, a carbon rear lip spoiler, Shadowline trim, carbon-style interior trim and a Black/Fox Red Novillo leather cabin. The one aftermarket part called out is a Megan Racing Supremo exhaust.

Why it matters

The E9x is the only M3 generation BMW ever built with a V8. The S65 is essentially the E60 M5's V10 with two cylinders removed, and it marks the peak of BMW M's naturally aspirated era. Every M3 since has been turbocharged. That is why good E92s have been climbing. A 73,000-mile 2012 Competition coupe sold for $40,000 on Bring a Trailer this April, and very low-mileage ZCPs now sell for six figures.

The usual E92 checklist applies at this mileage. Ask whether the rod bearings have been done (the S65's well-known weak spot), check the throttle actuators, and look for records of DCT fluid service. The rules deliver the car "AS IS" with no warranty, so its history is the whole story.

The fine print worth knowing

Two caps set the size of the drawing. The first is a per-person limit: "LIMIT TWENTY-FIVE (25) ENTRIES PER ENTRANT, REGARDLESS OF METHOD OF ENTRY." At $25 per entry, spending more than $625 adds no further chances. The second is an early close. The rules end the promotion at 11:59:59 p.m. PST on October 2, 2026, "OR as soon as two thousand five hundred (2,500) different Entrants have entered the Sweepstakes." Together these limit the drum to roughly 62,500 entries. Mail-in entries postmarked after the day the 2,500-entrant cap is reached are not counted. Caps like these fix the drawing's size and stop any one entrant from dominating it.

The prize and the cash. The rules read: "Grand Prize ARV - $25,000. The Winner will also have the option to accept a $16,000 USD cash award in lieu of the aforementioned Prize." The cash option is 64% of the stated value, and a 1099 is filed for the prize value. The winner pays for title, license, registration, insurance, taxes and transport. The rules also say the winner "must transfer title officially with their state DMV within ten (10) days of accepting the Prize" and needs a valid U.S. driver's license to take delivery. The car "may not meet safety or emissions testing required in some states." The sponsor can substitute a prize of equal or greater value.

Who can enter. Legal U.S. residents who are 18 or older (or the age of majority in their state). Alaska and Hawaii are excluded.

Paid entry. Purchases at primedriven.com earn one entry per $25 spent. Digital poster tiers run from $25 (1 entry) to $200 (8 entries), and merch counts at the same rate.

Free entry. Hand-print your full name, mailing address, phone number, date of birth and email on a 3"x5" card or paper. Mail it in a #10 envelope to Prime Driven – PDG337 M3, 101 Sparta Rd Unit B3, Stanhope, NJ 07874. It must be postmarked by October 2 and received by October 7, 2026. Each mail-in is worth one entry and counts toward the same 25-entry limit. The full official wording is below.

Who runs it. The sponsor is Prime Performance Auto LLC of Stanhope, New Jersey. American Sweepstakes and Promotion Co, Inc. administers the promotion and conducts the random drawing, scheduled for on or about October 8, 2026. The winner has seven days to return a signed affidavit and can be disqualified if they can't be reached within three business days. New Jersey law governs, and disputes are handled individually rather than as class actions.

Why It's Special

An E9x-generation M3, the only M3 generation BMW built with a V8. This one has the Competition Package (ZCP) and the 7-speed DCT, in Melbourne Red Metallic (a color Prime Driven calls rare) over Black/Fox Red Novillo leather.

Our value estimate

$25,000

This figure is the operator's. The official rules put the Grand Prize ARV at $25,000 and offer $16,000 cash instead of the car. Recent sales of Competition Package E92s have gone higher. A 73,000-mile 2012 M3 coupe with the Competition, Premium and Cold Weather packages sold for $40,000 on Bring a Trailer in April 2026. A 19,000-mile 2012 Competition coupe with the DCT brought $80,000 there in December 2025. Classic.com's average for DCT Competition coupes, across all mileages, is near $42,000. We couldn't find three sales within 10% of this car's roughly 62,000 miles, so we widened the window. The closest comp suggests $25,000 is on the conservative side for a clean example. Condition, service history (rod bearings especially) and the aftermarket exhaust could move the number either way. This is an editorial estimate, not an appraisal. Taking the cash pays $16,000.
